Balance, a term which is associated with almost
everything present around us. Today’s work culture revolves around the concept
of balance to a great extent. Here, the balance between ones’ work and life.
Times are hectic, humans are more engaged and achieving a perfect work-life
balance seems like a far-fetched dream. The normal employee work schedule now
is not only confined to usual office hours. Earlier when most of the work was
manual, employees’ left their work at work. They were able to relax and spend
some quality time with their families. But with the IT revolution, the entire
work scenario has changed. Employees are now able to access their work
irrespective of the place and time. This has ultimately resulted in a shift in
the traditional work schedule. Balance
is not better time management, but better boundary management. Balance means
making choices and enjoying those choices.
One may
view work-life balance as the approach to maintain an equal number of hours
between work and play. But it’s not! Having a well balanced work-life is not
only about coming to and returning from working on time. In
a broader perspective, it’s about prioritizing what’s important at that time.
Work life balance can
(and should) look different for everyone, based on what’s most important to
you. There may be times in life when you’re focused on career and personal
development, and other times when your focus turns to family or a favorite
hobby.
Work plays a significant part
in all our lives. Our earnings ensure that the lights stay on, there’s food on
the table and the rainy-day pot is full.
It is no easy task to achieve
work-life balance in today’s unpredictable and fast-paced world. As we grow increasingly more connected
through technology and social media, it is becoming more and more difficult to
separate work from our personal lives. It is commonplace to check emails at all
hours, take business calls at the dinner table and work on our laptops on
weekends. How has this become acceptable?
Maintaining a healthy work-life
balance is not only important for health and relationships, but it can also
improve your employee’s productivity, and ultimately performance. Put simply,
if your people don’t view work as a chore, then they will work harder, make
fewer mistakes and are more likely to become advocates for your brand.
It’s so secret—managing all the things you have to do as an adult

you can “have it all,” you certainly ought to be able to balance

that prohibits work activity in a specific area of your home or life. Whether

phone and laptop are out of earshot to eliminate work-induced distractions.

thereby giving you work satisfaction and peace of mind in life.
Managing Schedules – While it may seem counterintuitive as
you try to un-blur the
line between work and life, keeping one calendar forces you to balance the two
by not overbooking your schedule. Proactively scheduling your calendar — in one
central system — will allow you to maintain better control of your work-life
balance.
Check your capacities – Stretching beyond your capacity may snap
your powers, limit your potential and hence minimise your results, so check
your strengths , check your powers and then move forward.

every week—and regularly keep an eye on it to ensure they’re on task. Set aside
some time every Friday afternoon to assess what you need to accomplish the
following week, prioritizing time-sensitive tasks as you go. You might assign
certain tasks to certain days, including scheduled meetings. When you start the
work week with a vision of what your week looks like and what you want to
achieve, it’s much easier to make that happen. Most importantly, be realistic.

Take margins
between meetings to do important things like take a bio break, nourish yourselves, clear your head, take a brief
walk and, you know, work on projects instead of planning non-stop. If you’re

two a day and work your way up from there. You may eventually end up
reenergized and rejuvenated.
Sacrifice in a job is reflected in many ways, long commute, intensity
of the work, the pressures of very role you are in, being on call when off-duty
and the frequent travel demands.
To enjoy some balance, it may be pragmatic to set a few boundaries
and non-negotiables to protect your close relationships as well as your career.
